On April 12, 20 teams comprised of 80 eager contestants took part in the Bainbridge Irish’s inaugural Irish Road Bowling Tournament. The 300-year-old sport’s objective is for competitors to throw a 28-ounce iron ball (aka the bullet) along a designated country road course, aspiring for the fewest throws to reach the finish line. This year’s contest, which took place at the Bainbridge High School track, saw the winning team, the Island Singles, win a first-place trophy and serious bragging rights for rounding the track in just four tosses. Sponsored by Celtic Crossroads and Coates Design, the event raised $1,000 for the nonprofit, which founder Eileen O’Grady said was “pretty good for a first-time tournament!” O’Grady captured this shot of Sydney Bond, Camy Cohen, Kathie Lesh and Shane Ryerson acting the maggot, as they impressively leprechauned for the fans. The Bainbridge Irish invites those who want info about joining the club or playing in the next tournament to email eileen.ogrady@gmail.com.
