“We’re a full-service coffee shop for everyone in the community,” said Bainbridge Play Café owner and creator Amanda Aude, who added that having a little one with you is not a requirement to enjoy the café’s light and airy space. “But if you do have children with you, we have a private play space designed for children age 6 and under.”
Aude describes Bainbridge Play Café as a Scandinavian-inspired shop with toys, play equipment and furniture, that aims to feel calm, timeless, design-forward and meant for open-ended play. “It’s a place for parents to unwind and enjoy a hot cup of coffee while their kids play safely nearby,” Aude said.
It’s all infused with a sense of hygge—a Scandinavian state of mind and a way of living that prioritizes comfort, conviviality and well-being. It centers on savoring simple pleasures and creating a warm, safe atmosphere.
And it’s not all fun and games. Bainbridge Play Café offers a delicious array of food and beverages, too. “We serve local pastries from Pane d’Amore and Byen Bakeri in Seattle, as well as O&H Danish Bakery out of Racine, Wisconsin, which is where I’m from,” said Aude. “We have vegan, vegetarian and gluten-free grab-and-go lunches made locally by a women-owned business called Wild Roots Culinary Healing.” The café also offers a variety of kid-and adult-friendly grab-and-go snacks and drinks. “In addition to the basic drinks you’d find in any other coffee shop, we also serve fun and creative drinks like our Strawberry Dream—which features strawberry popping boba pearls—and our Mango Cloud, which features mango popping boba pearls.”
“We truly believe raising kids takes a village,” said Aude. “And we’re so excited to create ours right here on Bainbridge Island.”
